After Green Berry's children where born, at the age of 42, he enlisted in the Confederate Army on August 5th, 1862, in Oregon County (south of Dent County on the Arkansas-Missouri border). He joined the 8th Missouri Infantry, Company D, under Mitchell. He fought in the Trans-Mississippi campaign for the duration of the war and surrendered at New Orleans on May 25th, 1865.
Green Berry came back to Missouri and settled into a life of farming, political and social interests. He can be found in newspapers from the era many times about anything from how many foxes he was able to trap, to his involvement with the Greenbackers movement. The exact date of Green Berry or Polly's deaths are not known. They are buried at Huskey Cemetery near where their farm used to be.

The next branch on tree continues with Claude E. Harris and Ruby Helen Baker. They had three children all born in Missouri. Claude served in World War II with the Navy Seabees. He fought mostly in the Pacific and pictures exist of him standing in a jungle where they are trying to make way for an airstrip. He is survived by his three children.
